Vintage Vogue – Linda Evangelista for Vogue Italia 1989

I get a lot of inspiration for the label from vintage styles, and one of my favourite things to do is scour through classic editorial. Vogue is the ultimate, with so many amazing retro shoots from famous faces throughout the ages. Fashions come and go, and then come back again….. and it’s so great to see the way things were styled by fashions finest through different decades.

I love the passion in the images of this steamy Cuban inspired shoot featuring a young Linda Evangelista at the top of her game.

Leading Lady – Madonna

“No matter who you are, no matter what you did, no matter where you’ve come from, you can always change, become a better version of yourself.”

The controversial queen of pop, Madonna has entertained fans the world over through the past three decades, constantly reinventing her style and music, and pushing the boundaries of pop music through her songs and videos.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Madonna, I love that she has such strength and determination to succeed. She’s always stayed true to herself and has an answer to no-one attitude that helped her achieve autonomy in the male-dominated music industry. She’s done some things really well, and other things not so well, but it seems nothing can touch the material girl, and she remains one of the most powerful and influential women in the world.

Peruvian Goddess

I was completely blown away when I came across the most recent Vogue Russia editorial, shot by the talented Mariano Vivanco.
Catherine McNeil is flawless as she models Givenchy, Prada and Max Mara in the incredible mountains of Peru.

I love this vintage beach style. The high waisted bikini shorts, the structured swimsuits, and the cheekiness of brazenly showing a little skin back in those days.

These were the sunny carefree days of emerging new freedoms and surf culture.

I’ve got a serious girl crush on Cara Delevingne at the moment! She’s such a rock star, and I love that she’s so super comfy in her own skin. The model and actress not only cruises effortlessly from catwalk darling to rock star party girl, she bends and breaks the rules without so much as batting an eyelid.

Cara proves that confidence is sexy.

Leading Lady – Brigitte Bardot

Voulez-vous danser avec moi?

Iconic French beauty Brigitte Bardot set screens blazing in the early ’60′s, as the first international actress to hit the big time in Hollywood. Her style is pure sixties, the huge hair, the dark kohl eyes hidden under floppy hats and the vintage threads, have always inspired me.

It may still be hot here in Byron Bay but after TestRX review viewing all of these amazing images and being the leather lover I am, I’m so ready for Winter so I can rock some of my favourite new and vintage leather pieces.
(Although scorching hot days have never really kept me from wearing leather before.)
One thing I really admire about the fashion forward Women of Byron is whether it’s hot, cold, rainy or sandy, they always find a way to incorporate a little leather into each outfit.

We’re With the Band – Groupie Style

af10 af8 af9 af7 af6 af5 af4 af3 af2 af1 af12 af13

Groupies burst onto the scene alongside the rise of female and sexual liberation of the sixties and seventies. Fuelled by passion, they chased after a life less-ordinary, a life full of fun, excitement and wonder.

This movement inspired one of my fave films, Almost Famous, which captures the essence of what it was to be a groupie at the time. I love the style, LA in the late sixties, the sheer passion of these brazen, bohemian women who lived on the fringe in their quest to get closer to the men they adored and the movement they worshipped.

Her fairy-tale story is the stuff teenage girls around the world dream of. The young country girl propelled to modelling super-stardom and far-flung places, her face gracing billboards and magazines the world over, a string of famous suitors, a beautiful baby boy, and a successful skin care business too.

I really love the way Miranda has this sweetness about her, which shines through even when she’s shooting racy Victoria’s Secret campaigns. She’s a head-turning multi-millionaire with the world at her feet, but you can still sense that country-Australian go-getting tomboy who dared to chase her dreams.

woodstock 1969

The Woodstock Festival of 1969 was a game-changer. Etched in history as the hippy event of the era, Woodstock was a ceremonial end to the swinging ’60′s, a pivotal moment in music history, and a profound union of the counterculture generation. I’ve always been drawn to the bohemian style of the sixties and seventies, and the Woodstock festival was the defining celebration of this style and spirit. Billed as “An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music”, the festival took place in New York state, with around half a million people in attendance – the essence of a generation all captured on film in the 1970 documentary ‘Woodstock’. That hippy spirit is still flourishing almost 50 years on and so is much of the fashion……!
